Thank you for your patience and understanding during Phase 1 of the repair and refurbishment project for the Sutton Harbour Lock Gate seals. Phase 1 is now complete.
At the initiative of members of the fishing community, Sutton Harbour Company have recently consulted all stakeholder groups on proposals to bring forward the start of the second phase of works (from March 2024, to January 2024), with a view to completing the project and returning the harbour to normal operations as early as possible.
Having collated the feedback from the different stakeholder groups, the response in each group and overall was overwhelmingly in favour of the next phase starting in January. Therefore, the Environment Agency have sought authorisation from Defra and are pleased to confirm that work will recommence from 15 January.
The mitigation measures to support the ongoing activities of the fishing fleet, which have worked successfully during Phase 1, will continue to be in place for Phase 2.
The indicative programme for January:
- Phase 2 work to the inner gates will commence on 15 January 2024
- Work is estimated to complete on 26 April 2024. (Works involving restrictions to access through the lock would be estimated to finish earlier, in mid-April)
- A comprehensive programme will be published early in January
These works are vital to Plymouth, and we are committed to working as efficiently as possible, while minimising the impact to collective users within the harbour.
Best wishes for the festive season,
The Environment Agency & Sutton Harbour Company Project Team
